Remembrance Spirituality Day
Today we enjoyed our first spirituality day on the subject of Remembrance. The children came off normal timetable and spent the day completing exciting tasks and learning about Remembrance. The day began with an assembly from Mrs Cooke all about how animals have been awarded the Dicken medal for the bravery they showed in wars and conflicts. The assembly was followed up in class when the children were invited to design their own medal to mark animal courage. After break, the school shared a war poem written by John Mcrae before writing their own. They produced acrostic and rhyming poems. After lunch an art activity provided a wonderful creative time in the classroom. In Maple class the children recreated their own battle field scene using natural things found in the school grounds and some poppies they had made using a halved apple. In Oak class the children painted beautiful water colour scenes containing poppies. To end the day we all congregated in the hall to share all our wonderful work with everyone in the school. Well done Okeford!
